Disaster Relief Fund for Surveyors and their Families
"I am asking you to assist the Foundation in raising money for the 'Disaster Relief Fund', from the State Societies, your members, Society Sustaining Members, local vendors and anyone else you can think of!

Please be as generous as possible with your donations. I know that times are still difficult in some areas but send whatever you can afford. We will gratefully accept any donation you can make!"

From Joseph M. Dolan, PLS NSPS Foundation Chair

Developments on the Digital Coast Act

Last week, Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) co-hosted an event in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The Congressional Briefing focused on NOAA's Digital Coast project via an emphasis on disaster preparedness. This relationship to the recent hurricanes and the resulting storm damage and associated disaster response efforts is of major consequence as the data from Digital Coast can help all of the preparedness and recovery efforts. Mr. Ruppersberger represents the 2nd Congressional District which includes parts of Baltimore City as well as parts of Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Harford and Howard Counties. The Congressman will also soon introduce the House version of the Digital Coast Act. A companion bill has already unanimously passed the U.S. Senate.

Patrick Simon's Last Hit of the Gavel

For Patrick Simon's last day, he shares valuable videos on geodetic datums to the members of Maryland Society of Surveyors. He received this information from Dave Doyle, a retired NGS Chief Geodetic Surveyor.

The links to the video are provided below:

Under Pat's leadership, MSS members have shared with each other insights that made them better surveyors. The information has changed them as employees or as owner-operators. We thank Pat for his leadership and vision for the past year.
