On January 10, 2018, Governor Hogan convened to 2018 session of the General Assembly of Maryland.  MSS lobbyist Bill Kress is actively monitoring legislation and identifying bills that affect the land surveying profession and the industries we serve. As of January 22, 2018, 671 bills have been introduced. So far, only one bill affects land surveyors, Senate Bill 77.

Currently the State Board for Professional Land Surveyors is composed of 6 members, 3 professional land surveyors, 1 licensed property line surveyor and 2 consumer members. The last property line surveyors were licensed in the early 1990’s. As the number of licensed property line surveyors decreases, the challenge to find property line surveyors to serve on the board increases. Senate Bill 77 removes the requirement that 1 member of the board must be a property line surveyor and allows the governor to appoint either a property line surveyor or a professional land surveyor to that position.
