Maryland and other states across the nation celebrated the importance of surveyors on the week of March 18-24. Governor Larry Hogan issued a proclamation declaring this week as "Surveyors Week" for Maryland.

Surveyors Week also coincided with the EDM Calibration Baseline Ceremony in Hancock, MD. At this event, the Honorable Kelly Schulz, Maryland's Secretary of the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation, has formally announced the observation of Surveyors Week on behalf of Governor Hogan. The event had over fifty people in attendance and was featured in both the Herald Mail and Morgan Messenger.

In the proclamation, read by Honorable Schulz, Gov. Hogan emphasized the new technology burgeoning in the surveying field. Maryland Society of Surveyors also holds numerous events throughout the year, teaching surveyors young and old about mastering the equipment.

Special guests such as Rena Butler, President of Maryland Society of Surveyors, were also in attendance. James Shaw, a professional land surveyor, filmed the event proceedings.
