Equipment Maintenance, Repair and Calibration
Cadby Theatre

What should every professional surveyor, field technician, and other personnel know about maintaining, repairing, and calibrating total stations and other instruments to assure accuracy, functionality, and value of this equipment? The class will start with the basics of how to properly move equipment in and out of the carrying case and how to correctly set up an instrument tripod. It will progress to how to accurately put the instrument on the tripod before going through the steps to calibrate the total station.  The step by step process will be explained in detail to complete the field calibration process.  Additionally, panelists will discuss “Check & Adjust” to help surveying personnel better understand when to run the Check & Adjust, proper conditions for running a Check & Adjust, step by step procedures, and understanding the results.  Finally, methods for adjusting tripods, poles and tribrachs will be presented, as well as battery and IP ratings and peg testing levels.

COMAR Compliance - Refresher and Audit of Maryland Professional Surveyor Licensing Regulations
Cadby Theatre

As a licensed professional land surveyor in Maryland, each practitioner must keep abreast of relevant laws, rules and regulations.  The Board for Professional Land Surveyors regulates the practice of surveying under the provisions of Business Occupations and Professions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 15 and the Code of Maryland Regulations, Title 9, Subtitle 13. In furtherance of serving and protecting public health, welfare, and safety, this class is a review of law and regulations governing professional land surveyors in Maryland.  It will review Title 15, COMAR requirements, particularly the most recent revisions, to assist surveyors with knowledge and awareness of such requirements and compliance thereto.  Dan Lavelle, Lavelle & Associates, Inc., who recently stepped down after several terms on the Board for Professional Land Surveyors is the instructor.
