2019 sediment & erosion control
 Course Description
This course will be a detailed design course onset of erosion control in Maryland using the updated 2011 Sediment Control Manual, see below. The course will involve actual design of sediment erosion control for a subdivision of approximately 40 lots; design will focus on the relationship between sediment erosion control, stormwater management, storm drainage and site grading.

Students will be asked to actually draw plan, determine the best location for berms, dikes, silt fences, sediment control traps and sediment basins. Computations will include detailed comps in a manner consistent with sediment erosion control plan review in the state of Maryland as conducted by SCD.

Students should print or download the following and have with them in class:

The Maryland Sediment Control Manual (click here)
The Maryland State Highway Drainage Manual (click here)
Volume 2 of the Stormwater Management Manual (click here)

Student should also bring with them to class a calculator, pencils, paper and scales/triangles.

The course will consist of six 8 hour sessions with a break for lunch and a break at mid-morning and mid-afternoon; homework assignments will be made and the course will be concluded by final examination. It is a pass fail course; the final worked exam will be provided to all students.
