Pursuant to the MSS ByLaws: Report of the Nominations/Tellers Committee 
Speaker:  Robert McCord, Secretary, Maryland Department of Planning
" A Better Maryland" Strategy

Secretary Robert McCord will be speaking on "A Better Maryland".  A dynamic, evolving plan that provides a framework to support a thriving economy and environmental stewardship. The plan supports collaboration among state and local governments and all other stakeholders, providing resources and tools for the long term economic success of Maryland. Join us as Secretary McCord explains this initiative and how it will impact surveyors, clients and the citizens of Maryland.

About Our Speaker

Mr. McCord is the new Secretary for the Maryland Department of Planning. As Secretary, Rob provides comprehensive leadership of the Department’s mission, objectives, and initiatives. Secretary McCord assumed the position following the appointment of Wendi Peters to the position of Special Secretary of Smart Growth. Prior to his recent appointment, Mr. McCord served the Department as the Assistant Secretary of Operations.

Rob comes to Planning with private sector and local government experience and had been serving as the Asst. Sec. for Operations since April of 2015. He was born in Baltimore City and raised in Baltimore and Harford Counties. He worked in a small private practice in Bel Air before joining the Harford County Law Department in 1998 as the Deputy County Attorney then as the County Attorney from 2004 -2014. He has also seen issues from Western Maryland to the Eastern Shore as a trustee on the Local Government Insurance Trust. He is married with two adult children and his interests include astronomy, history and home improvement.
