 Course Description

This course will address storm drain pipe design, culvert design and open channel flow as required by State Highway Administration (SHA) and Charles County in the State of Maryland. As such, the student will be fully versed in the basic design of all three design alternatives. The design will illustrate headwater, tailwater, and hydraulic grade line computations for open channels, culverts and pipe systems. The course will address TR-55 computations, TR-20 to a degree and the formulation of drainage divides and pipe design for a small 41 lot subdivision system.  This course is approved by the Maryland State Board for civil design credit related to qualification to become a licensed surveyor in Maryland.

The student will need the SHA Drainage Manual, the TR-55 Manual, the Charles County Drainage Manual, a calculator, paper and scale/triangles and pencils in class.
