MSS MEMBER BENEFITS
The Maryland Society of Surveyors (MSS) is a non-profit association comprised of people engaged and interested in the surveying and mapping profession. Members include licensed professionals, unlicensed technicians and associates, teachers, students, companies and others who have committed to the advancement of surveying and mapping in the furthering of the public welfare.
When someone calls the MSS office and asks for a referral, they are directed to “Find A Surveyor” on the MSS website. All licensed members of MSS are listed with their contact information according to their chapter(s) of record. Potential clients will find your listing by clicking on an interactive map. This is a free service for MSS members.

MSS retains a legislative agent in Annapolis to monitor all proposed legislation and notify the Government Affairs Committee if a bill affects surveying or a related profession, as well as to advise the committee when proposing, opposing or supporting legislation. A recent example of the success of the Government Affairs Committee is a reduction of the length of the term in the Statute of Repose for Surveyors to 10 years. This is a bill to update education requirements to become a licensed surveyor and a firm permit bill.
MSS has twelve local chapters which meet regularly with surveyors in their region. The chapters host continuing education seminars and networking events. Chapter events are posted on the main community calendar.
MSS conducts four general membership meetings per year in different locations around the state in conjunction with a meeting of the Board of Directors. This makes officers, directors, committee chairs and others directly accessible to members on a face-to-face basis. Please visit our calendar for the list of upcoming meetings.
MSS provides seminars on a wide range of technical and educational subjects for the enrichment of all of our members from the technician studying toward licensure to the licensed professional keeping up with Continuing Professional Competency (CPC’s). At least one seminar is provided every year in each of the four regions of the state. Please visit our calendar to view upcoming seminars.

Multiple seminars are held over several days each year at a resort location in different regions of Maryland. New officers are sworn in and yearly awards are presented at the banquet. This conference frequently houses the scholarship auction from which all proceeds go to the Maryland Society of Surveyors Educational Trust (MSSET) for the scholarship fund as well as social and networking events and an exhibit hall featuring the latest equipment, software, and technology.
MSS is an affiliate of two national organizations: NSPS and AAGS. Your membership in MSS includes membership in NSPS and AAGS, as well as an opportunity to participate in the Maryland State Geographic Information Committee.
