ABOUT MSS
The Maryland Society of Surveyors (MSS) is a non-profit association consisting of individuals involved or invested in the surveying and mapping profession. Our membership encompasses licensed professionals, unlicensed technicians, associates, educators, students, businesses, and others dedicated to promoting the progress of surveying and mapping for the betterment of society.
MSS is a professional association dedicated to advancing the science of surveying and mapping for the betterment of the public and those who use and create maps and surveys. Our primary goal is to educate the public on the significance and necessity of professional surveying services. Additionally, we establish surveying standards to ensure surveying tasks are conducted with a high level of professionalism and communicate these standards to our members.
MSS promotes high ethical standards, and professionalism among surveyors, the general welfare, efficiency, and services of its members.
If you are a licensed surveyor or a candidate to become a licensed surveyor in the State of Maryland, we encourage you to become a member of MSS.
WHY CHOOSE A LAND SURVEYOR?
Professional Land Surveyors establish official land, air space, and water boundaries. They write descriptions of land for deeds, leases, and other legal documents; define air space for airports; and measure construction and mineral sites. Surveyors also provide data relevant to the shape, contour, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features.
When purchasing a home, the land survey is a benefit to both the lender and the purchaser of a property. A boundary survey (commonly referred to as a property survey) establishes or re-establishes the physical position and extent of the boundaries of real property. It reveals the existence of other rights affecting the property such as easements, rights of way, etc. Also, the relationships of improvements relative to property lines are established.
